Outstanding Gunner of the Year

RNZA Association Trophy presented to Bdr Andrew Smith

Bdr Smith played an instrumental role in the incorporation of the 81mm mortar into 161 Battery and the Regiment as a whole.

Although only recently promoted he was given, and enthusiastically grasped, the challenge of helping guide battery training and identifying new TTP's or ratifying old ones (as part of a team).

Throughout the year he enthusiastically volunteered to conduct additional duties and exercises, often at little to no notice.  He always performed to a very high, professional standard and conveyed this attitude to his subordinates, peers and superiors alike. He was frequently involved in guiding and teaching junior personnel and provided well considered advice.

Overall, his performance was highly professional and he showed he is someone who could be an ideal mentor and role model for gunners and non-commissioned officers.
